PRIDE A WORTHLESS MONSTER

WHAT IS PRIDE? pride is the feeling that someone is better or more important than other people. What a worthless feeling! For pride brings hatred, creates a mental prison, and brings conflict between family and friends. Pride is a valueless feeling. Pride makes everybody an enemy, a conspirator, a competitor.

What makes a human have pride? When one has no control over his own birth. What could have happen if ones parents had aborted him or her, where will ones pride be? Nowhere.

Many societies are filled with many people who have pride, many take pride in looks- I’m so beautiful, I’m so handsom. Many take pride in their possessions- I have too much money in the bank, I have a big house, big car. Many take pride in achievements- I’m the bank manager, I’m the head of my organization. Though, being hansom or beautiful is good (I like good looking people) why does it bring pride? What happens when old age or an accident takes away the beauty or handsomeness?  What else will give pride? Same goes for the possessions and achievements, having things and achieving goals are also good but allowing pride to grow not controlled because of possessions and accomplishments. Will only lead to the undoing of any one.

In my quest to conquer to myself, on the battle field of pride. I fight to free myself from this valueless feeling . Just as ancient cities had walls that isolated it from the world, and islands are surrounded by water which protects and isolates it from the outside world, pride is the wall and water that concretely isolates me from  people. I had so much pride, that it became a veil covering my eyes. For I knew no one but myself- it was eating my mind, body and spirit.

I now know that being kind, fair and showing dignity to people cost nothing, and  it contributes to unity and peace between people.

MY QUEST TO CONQURE SELF

Many have conquered empires with ingenious military might, brought kingdoms to nothing and great kings to nothing, through wise war strategies. Many have conquered the earth and sky. However, the most volatile, the most lethal of all battle fields- SELF- conquers those who capture kingdoms.

Ancient Greek philosophy tells of men who slaye seven headed serpents, vanquished sea monsters. But the monsters and serpents of self conquer many mighty men and women. This internal deadly battle field can be compared to 10 empires and 20 sea monsters and 6 headed serpents. Self is a worthy adversary.

History shows the wanton part way of rampage left by uncontrolled selves, history shows that self is the cause of all misery to humans.  Sir Walter Scott made a remarkable statement “he who indulges himself to any excess renders himself obnoxious to his own reason and to gratify the brute in him displeases the man and sets his two natures at variance.

The sea monster of uncontrolled desire- overeating, oversleeping, volcanic emotions and passions. Seven headed serpents of jealousy, envy, pride, prejudice, anger and talking too much. Many have dead for overeating; many are poor because of over sleeping. Volcanic emotions of anger, hatred, envy and jealousy has caused the death of many people.

NO, NO self must be conquered; its self-defeating actions must end. This is a war against me, my mind, my body and my emotions. (This is no monk celibacy thing).
